Get into Reading Project

Funding allows for:

  • A reading group set up by Venus Training & Consultancy and The Reader Organisation accessible to 10 individuals with learning disabilities 
  • ‘Read to Lead’ training for 10 support workers interested in setting up a reading group within their own organisation

Reading Group

The Start for this course is:     3rd December

Duration of Course:                    14 weeks (Break for Christmas & Half term)

Individuals with learning disabilities attend reading sessions with their support worker (who will take part in the ‘Read to Lead’ training).  Various forms of communication will be used to develop the individual’s interest in books, stories and poems.  The support worker will benefit from experiencing a reading group in action.

Refreshments will be provided. 

Parking is available in the main car park at the cost of £1.  Please ensure the parking ticket is displayed clearly in the vehicle. 2 hours free parking is available in the Visitors car park.  If this car park is used please sign in at reception and display permit clearly in the vehicle.

‘Read to Lead’ Course Details

This training day offers the opportunity to:

  • Develop  understanding of The Reader Organisation and Get Into Reading;
  • Take part in an intensive reading experience as part of a Get Into Reading group;
  • Observe the principles of The Reading Organisations work in action and learn specialised reading and group facilitation techniques;
  • Meet local people who are interested in Get Into Reading;
  • Discuss strategies for developing Get Into Reading in your area;
  • Find out more about Get Into Reading accreditation;
